The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is an isolated mountain range separated from the Andes. Reaching an altitude of 5,700 meters just 25 miles from the Caribbean coast, the Sierra Nevada is the world's highest coastal range.
ASOANEI is composed of indigenous producers and small producers of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serrania del Perija. Founded in 1996 by Aurora Izquierdo with the aim of structuring organic agricultural programs in the region, ASOANEI is made up of more than 800 indigenous families belonging to four very distinct ethnic groups. These are the Arhuacos, Koguis, Wiwas and Kankuamos, along with small farmers who share a holistic view of forests, rivers, mountains and animal protection through the implementation of sustainable initiatives.
Through the conservation of natural resources they seek to improve their living conditions and traditional ancestral heritage. The production of coffee is done within the context of harmony and respect for Mother Earth.
